And even though I know how very far apart we are It helps to think we might be wishing on the same bright star
And when the night wind starts to sing a lonesome lullaby It helps to think we're sleeping underneath the same big sky
James Ingram duet with Linda Ronstadt
When my son was graduating from kindergarten they sang this song. The next year we were moving to India to live, perhaps for the rest of our lives and it made me think about how I could always be close to my family by looking up at the stars that would be over all of us. It made me cry.
This song also has a special meaning to me also related to living in a foreign country. I taught English in Japan for two years. To get around town we usually walked from place to place as we had one school van that we could borrow shared between many teachers. Between our apartments and the closest shopping area/subway stop, there was a large park which we walked through often, sometimes at night. When the stars were out I would always sing this song with one of my friends. It reminded me of friends and family back home.
